As one of Singapore's oldest neighbourhoods, Bedok has a rich history going back to its kampung roots. Its people come from all walks of life, with some having lived here for more than 30 years.

Bedok today is a busy and vibrant hub, featuring a mix of residential and commericial spaces and dining options, paired with world-class public amenities and ever-expanding accessibility.

Despite its multiple facelifts over the decades, Bedok has retained its distinct heartland character, making it one of Singapore's most diverse and interesting places to live.

Opinion is divided on how the name ‘Bedok’ came about, but some believe that it derives from the Malay word bedoh, a type of wooden drum used to issue the Islamic call to prayer in pre-modern times. Another theory is that the name comes from the Malay word ‘biduk’, a type of wooden fishing boat common to the area.
